Emma
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. Emma aged six when she decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford in which she learned singing and acting. By the time she turned 10 Emma took part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and school plays. In 1999 casting began with the casting process for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. After eight consistent auditions the producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were selected for the role of the three lead characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film set records for first-day and weekend revenue, making it the top-grossing 2001 film. Critics praised the film and the acting performances of the three acclaimed young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British newspaper, praised Emma's performances "amazing". Then Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film and was awarded The Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in a Feature Film.
